2.5 Year Update {Hanley}

Hanley is already 2 and a 1/2 and I just can't wrap my brain around it! This is the 3rd year we have acknowledged her "half birthday" with a little cake and song. Although I was a little hesitant this year because she loves parties and birthdays. She will randomly just tell me "happy birthday mom!" and sometimes I tell her it's not really my birthday and other times I literally just say "thank you baby!" and then we carry on with the rest of our day. I was afraid it would exacerbate her love of her birthday and she would assume it would be a daily thing but so far so good.

For the last two years, I've made half of a cake but this year I wanted something a little different. This year I made these funfetti gooey cake bars. Very sweet, but very good and easy to make!

She is 30lbs and has been for quite awhile. Not exactly sure on her height, she will be measured next month at her doctor check-up. She has mastered brushing her teeth, I'm so proud of her (well I actually brush them for her)! We now use fluoride toothpaste and she is a champ at spitting it out and not swallowing it anymore. Her very first 2nd year molar just broke through earlier this month. She has another on the gum line but hasn't broken through yet. I think it might have disturbed her sleep for a night or 2 when it was attempting to cut through her gums.

We are working on recognizing all the letters of the alphabet, she only knows about half of them. I feel like the alphabet is a difficult thing to teach and learn. Should you start the focus on all capital letters? Lower case? Do a mix of both upper and lower case? Plus, there are several letters that look like another letter... For example, she sometimes mixes up the letter 'M' with a 'W' or vice versa, or a 'P' and an 'R'. She also knows her colors and shapes.

She is a lover of all nursery rhymes and singing songs. She can work a tablet better than me and loves YouTube for all the Play-Doh and childrens channels of nursery rhymes. She can count to 10 in Spanish and to 20 in Engish. Her favorite television shows are Diego, The Wonder Pets, and Peppa Pig. Still takes a pacifier when she takes naps and goes to sleep... I'm hoping by 3 she will be ready to ditch it! She knows it stays in her drawer in her bedroom and she's typically pretty good about leaving it there when it's not sleepy time.

She is currently wearing 2T. I've actually been buying some 3T clothes so she can have it for next year as well even though it's slightly big for her to wear now. Shoe size is a 6.5 technically but it's hard to find a lot of half sizes in the stores we like to shop so I go with a 7 and they seem alright.

She is such a pleasant little girl to be around, (starting to not like to be called a baby), has never really had a tantrum stage, thankfully! She started talking really well at a young age so I think that has helped her to communicate her wants and needs instead of screaming at me. We also discuss a lot of things, and talk through most of her issues to avoid tears when possible.

Still takes naps (please never let them go, for a long time!) for around 2.5 hours. Goes to sleep around 9:30-10 after about an hour long bed time routine. Her bedtime routine is brushing her teeth and going potty. Picking out jammies and changing into them. Reading 6-10 books (depending on the size of the books) and then singing 6 songs (Jesus Loves the Little Children; Jesus Loves Me; I Love You, You Love Me; You Are my Sunshine; Wheels on the Bus; and Hush Little Baby) while rocking in the glider in her room. After the last song, I put her in her bed and fluff her pillow and tuck her in and then leave and she sleeps until 8am typically.

She has been potty trained since she turned 2 years old (with a month of relapse because of a pooping issue that needs its own post soon) but even is dry all night long (only wakes up wet once every couple weeks, if that) but still wears Pull-Ups daily because of said pooping issue we are still trying to work through.

37 Weeks {baby #2}

How Far Along: 37 weeks
Total Weight Gain/Loss: 25 lbs - no gained weight in 2 weeks - which seems odd
Maternity Clothes: it's getting harder and harder to get dressed to go anywhere. If I'm home I'm most likely wearing one of Michael's huge shirts and his sweatpants (and look ridiculous)
Best Moment This Week: Hanley and I were sitting together and Conrad kicked Hanley from my belly and she stopped what she was doing and said "hey, what was that!?" And I said "brother kicked you!" And she rubbed my belly and said "I love you too brother!" Ah she melts my heart!
Movement This Week: lots of movement
Food Cravings: still none - none this whole pregnancy, its kinda strange...
Anything Make You Queasy or Sick: no but I do have this lovely sore throat
Have You Started to Show Yet: Yes
Gender: boy, Conrad!
Symptoms: some cramping, nothing too bad, lots of Braxton Hicks. Doctor appointment earlier today and she said my cervix is just barely opening

35 Weeks {baby #2}

How Far Along: 35 weeks
Total Weight Gain/Loss: 25 lbs
Maternity Clothes: Yes! I may of had a bit of a little meltdown when I needed to do laundry a few days ago and I couldn't find anything comfy that would cover my belly! Haha But have no fear, laundry is clean again and we are back in business...lol
Best Moment This Week: the material to make the curtains for the nursery came and I finished all other projects I was doing for his room! Also, got a double stroller that I'm excited about, got the car seat down from the attic and moved all the straps to fit a teeny newborn (eeek!!). Also put the bassinet together that will go next to my bed.
Movement This Week: he likes to create awkward bulges on my sides.
Food Cravings: still none - none this whole pregnancy, its kinda strange.
Anything Make You Queasy or Sick: Hanley vomited something fierce allllllll over the kitchen rug the beginning of the week and I gagged a couple times, which I totally blame on this pregnancy because I have a very strong stomach typically.
Have You Started to Show Yet: Yes
Gender: little baby boy
Symptoms: started using a slightly thinner pillow in between my legs while sleeping and the pain in my hips isn't as bad as with the fluffier pillow, who knew!? Also, some pelvic pain/pressure, and my left leg is still going numb and it's so annoying. Oh, also, I believe I'm nesting: lots of cleaning, laundry, and organizing going on!
Belly Button IN or OUT: the very top of my belly button has popped out a tad but the bottom part is still flat
Looking Forward To: getting the curtains put up in his room and hanging the last of the decorations.

Hanley Goes to the Dentist

This picture makes my heart happy!

Hanley had a dentist checkup last week. Overall, this was her second dentist appointment ever. I started taking her when she turned 2, I want her to be comfortable and enjoy getting her teeth cleaned, like her mama!

She's such a great little patient!! She listens very well and opens up when they ask her to. She's the best 'go with the flow' little sidekick! I always make sure I warn her, so to say, when things like this are happening. Since her appointment was on a Wednesday, I started talking to her around Monday that she was going to have a dentist appointment. So that way, we talk about it for a couple days to sort of get her prepared. I'll talk to her about what they'll do and what makes the dentist happy and unhappy. That way, she knows exactly where we are going, and has an idea of what will happen so she doesn't have to feel afraid.

Thankfully, no cavities and she finally had her first 2nd year molar break through the gum with another one on its way.

I've been too nervous to start her on actual fluoride toothpaste and had still been using the safe 'training' paste because she always sucks it off then brushes (and then I brush better for her, after) but her dentist reassured me it would be totally safe to start her, using half a pea sized amount of toothpaste. Much to my surprise, half a pea size amount of toothpaste (which sounds like nothing at all) goes a very long way in a toddlers mouth! I surely would've been using way too much had I not had this conversation with her dentist. So the evening after her dentist appointment, I talked to her about her 'special' toothpaste and told her all about how she shouldn't swallow it. I demonstrated how she should rinse her mouth out with water afterwards and she was anxious to try herself. Shockingly, she did amazing. She didn't swallow any of the fluoride toothpaste and rinsed her mouth like a champ. I was so ecstatic! She doesn't quite understand how to keep all the foamy toothpaste from dripping down her mouth but I guess that's the least of my worries. I have to constantly remind her the entire time she is brushing (or when I'm rebrushing for her) not to swallow because there's been a few mishaps where she swallows everything instead of spitting it out when its time to rince her mouth with water.

Thankfully, she loves brushing her teeth and actually asks to floss some nights too. Here's to hoping we can keep her dental hygiene up to avoid cavities for a very long time!!

33 Weeks {baby #2}

How Far Along: 33 weeks

Best Moment This Week: watching Hanleys face light up when she feels him wiggle around inside my belly!!
Movement This Week: very active little guy! I get lots of jabs to my pelvic bones and they are borderline painful and very new to me since I never felt that with Hanley.
Food Cravings: none - none this whole pregnancy, its kinda strange.
Anything Make You Queasy or Sick: Nothing - I've felt very lucky with both pregnancies.
Have You Started to Show Yet: Yes
Gender: little baby boy
Symptoms: occasionally pain in the belly and sore hips, mainly from sleeping on my sides. My left leg goes numb sometimes if I'm leaning to the left while I sit but it goes away as soon as I move.
